Solar Energy
At this early stage it is thought that solar panels will fall under the Green Deal Scheme. Solar panels are often thought of as being the ultimate in being environmentally green.
Solar comes in two forms either Solar Thermal or Solar PV.
Solar Thermal:
The Green Deal Solar Thermal is a smaller installation of either one or two panels solar thermal panels heat your hot water. Basically sunlight heats a fluid inside the tubes on you solar thermal panel which in turns heats the hot water held in a separate tank. A decent solar thermal systemshould give you enough water for the average families daily consumption.
As of October of this year solar thermal will be subject to the Renewable Heat Incentive which means that you will be paid by the government for having solar thermal fitted, these payments will paid for 20 years and completely tax free. How the Renewable Heat Incentive and the Green Deal Will come together is yet unclear but we will keep you updated on the outcome.
Solar thermal will save around £200/£300 per year on energy bill by generating your own hot water.
Solar PV
The Green Deal Solar PV is a larger installation of anything from 6 panels to 20 panels on your roof. Solar PV has been the most popular green measure over the past couple of years because of the great returns had through the government Feed in Tariff. Having solar pv fitted through the Green Deal would mean the solar panels on your roof would generate electricity to power your home.
This would mean lower electricity bills for you and a way of insulating yourselves against ever rising fuel costs. This green measure has not been open to the masses because of the high upfront costs of getting it installed. The Green Deal of course eradicates this issue by paying for the technology for you.
Solar PV will save anything upto £350 per year on your electricity bill and earn you anything up to £750 a year in feed in tariff payments but as with the solar thermal how the feed in tariff and the Green Deal will marry together is still unclear.
