Ground Source Heat Pumps
Although this form of renewable energy is often overlooked it can be hugely beneficial to homeowners. Installing a Green Deal ground source heat pump can save significant amount on your electricity anywhere in the region of £610 per year. Basically pipes are laid underground in your garden drawing heat from the earths natural energy. Fluid is then pumped around a set of pipes laid underground generating more heat until it is finally ready to heat your home, this includes radiators and hot water. The ground source heat pump can be a complex issue and not suitable for every home but your Green Deal assessor will be able to advise you further on this.
Ground Source Heat Pumps can:
- Lower you’re heating bills by a considerable amount.
- You qualify for the Renewable Heat Incentive a government payback system similar to the feed in tariff, where you will get quarterly payments for 20 years from your utility company completely tax free. Once again it is yet undecided how the Renewable Heat Incentive and the Green Deal will marry together.
- Need very little or no maintenance throughout its lifespan.
- Will provide heating reliably all year round.
Installation of a Ground Source Heat Pump can be labour intensive and there is a certain level of upheaval and digging but your Green Deal assessor will be able to show
you the practical application of the technology.
