Cavity Wall Insulation
Green Deal cavity wall insulation is another green move that can be taken which is relatively inexpensive to install and yields terrific savings. If your house was built after about 1920 the chances are that it will made up of two layers of brickwork also chances are that they will be hollow.
The Green Deal will be very keen for householders to take up this option. To have cavity wall insulation all that needs to be done is small holes drilled through the front layer of brickwork and specialist equipment will ‘blow’ the insulation into the cavity. Once the cavity has been filled the small holes are filled and nobody would be any the wiser any work had been carried out. A Green Deal Cavity wall insulated property will save up to £175 per year.
Now we also understand that not every property has a cavity, but don’t panic you can still benefit from Green Deal wall insulation as there is a method called solid wall insulation that also falls under the Green Deal scheme. If your home was built pre 1920 then the likelihood is that you will have a solid wall. A solid wall will lose a lot more heat than a cavity wall so it is an important area to remedy.
Solid wall installation can be done either internally or externally. Being installed externally is the cheaper of the two options but may not suit all properties especially period properties with an attractive frontage. Both types of wall insulation would need a Green Deal survey to work out all your options.
Green Deal GB will instruct a Green Deal assessor on your behalf so all avenues can be explored.
